STUDENT VISA

Whether you need a student visa or not depends on your country of origin. If you are an EU national, or national from the EEA, Switzerland, Norway, Iceland or Liechtenstein, the good news is that you do not need a visa to access France neither do you need any other document to reside. However, you will need your passport and other travel ID’s in order to study legally in France.

If you are a student of another nationality, indeed, you need a visa but the visa type now varies in terms of the courses’ duration you’ll need to offer once here.

There are four main types of visas in France:

Schengen student visa (short-stay): Also known as "court séjour pour étude" this visa type is purposely for a student planning to  have a stay of not more than 3 months in France. There are some countries in which students who want to come and study in France for 90 days or less do not need a visa. For more information concerning that type of visa, check out the website of the French government. Take note that this visa is non-renewable.

Visa to sit entrance exams: Also called "visa de court séjour étudiant concours", is that which is applied for by a student who wants to travel to France to write and entrance exam into a school or a university. In case this student sits and validates his exam, he can then apply for a renewable one year residence permit.

Temporary long-stay visa: Ideal for students coming to France and specifically to ESIEA on a 1 semester exchange program as it is a visa for students wishing to stay in France for not more than 6 months. With this visa there is no need for a resident permit.

Long-stay visa: Also called "visa de long séjour pour études" or extended-stay VLT-TS
is the visa students planning to stay in France for more than 6 months need. With this there is no need for resident permit as it issues a dwelling permission over the  period your study program lasts.
